The Battle of Sangju Hwaryeongjang is meaningful that Armed Forces and UN Forces contributed greatly to the development of a defense system centered on the Nakdong River when the South has been hit by the North Korean Army with a big blow.

The Memorial of Sangju Hwaryeongjang was established in October 2018 in order to commemorate the Battle of Sangju Hwaryeong. From the beginning of the Korean War, from July 17, 1950 to July 24, in Hwaryeongjang region of Hwaseo-myeon in Gyeongbuk, Armed Forces 17th Regiment and 1st Division, together with Hwaryeong region residents and police having a fight against North Korean Army 15th Division. The battle destroyed the 2nd Regiment of the 15th Division of the North Korean Army.

At that time, the great victory that changed the situation of war - it delayed North Korean Army to move south and made a decisive contribution to building defense ships in Nakdong River, making the ROK Army winning the first victory alone.

The exhibition room exhibited the National History Museum, Hwaryeong Battle Hall of the safeguarding city Sangju, the Korean War, Sanggok-ri battle and Dongwan-ri battle. Outside, there are Daehwa Garden, Chamho Garden, Garden of Memory and symbolic sculptures. Helicopters and armored vehicles are also installed.
