Dried Persimmon Agricultural Heritage Trail

The Namjang-dong Agricultural Heritage Trail course enters Namjang-dong and connects the persimmon cultivation area and the villages with drying facilities. It is centered on the village warehouse and starts at the Sangju Life and Culture Center.

Namjangsa Temple

  • Namjangsa Temple is a traditional temple of the Jogye Order and is one of the four Sangju temples.
  • It was founded in 830 by State Preceptor Jingam after his return from the Tang Dynasty.

Stone Totem Pole

  • A stone totem pole located about 500 m away from Namjangsa Temple.
  • It has been designated as Gyeongsangbuk-do Local Folk Material No. 33.
  • Residents who believe in folk beliefs pray here for family peace and prosperity.

Sangju Life and Culture Center

  • A cultural community space operated autonomously by residents.
  • It expands cultural and leisure activities through the leadership and participation of residents, and supports stable activities for life art clubs and club members.
The course of the agricultural heritage trail in Soeun-ri, Oenam-myeon, has Sangju Dried Persimmon Park as the central point, and goes through the Gamrakwon and Sangju Dried Persimmon Park trails to the persimmon cultivation area in the village, a dried persimmon drying facility, and a 750-year-old persimmon tree. The central point introduces the traditional fairy tale about dried persimmons, agricultural culture, and the meaning and value of agricultural heritage. Each satellite site introduces the meaning of a unique agricultural technology, the landscape or the biodiversity, according to the characteristics of the site.

Sangju Dried Persimmon Park and Gamrakwon

  • A space for experiences and resting with the theme of the fairy tale, “Dried Persimmons Scarier than Tigers.”
  • The park is decorated with sculptures of Yeonji's House and Grandma Spring, which appear in the fairy tale.
  • It is a complex space where experiences and resting are harmonized, providing the innocence of childhood to adults and various games and experiences to children.

The first persimmon tree under the sky

  • The ‘first persimmon tree under the sky’ is the oldest grafted tree in Korea, and shows the history of fruit tree grafting.
  • According to oral tradition, dried persimmons made from the fruit of this tree were offered to the king.

Grandma Spring

  • A grandmother who was driving cattle became thirsty and dug water in the footprints of cow using a hoe. Clear spring water gushed up and became Grandma Spring.
  • This is also part of the background of the traditional fairy tale, “Dried Persimmons Scarier than Tigers.”
The Agricultural Heritage Trail in Seoman-ri, Naeseo-myeon, is a course with the Gumai Dried Persimmon Village Center as the center and it connects the persimmon cultivation area and dried persimmon drying facilities in the village along the Ian Stream. The central point introduces the food culture using persimmons and dried persimmons, the lifestyle of residents, and the meaning and value of agricultural heritage. Each satellite site introduces the meaning of a unique agricultural technology, the landscape or the biodiversity, according to the characteristics of the site.

Zelkova, tombstone

  • On the full moon of the first lunar month every year, villagers take turns holding ancestral rites to pray for the well-being and prosperity of the village.
  • Dried persimmons, a specialty of Sangju, are placed on the ancestral table.

Gumai Persimmon Theme Green Experience Center

  • It is located in the inland region of northwestern Gyeongsangbuk-do, where 90% of the residents are engaged in persimmon (dried persimmon) production.
  • Clear water always flows from the stream in front of the village, and it boasts a well-coordinated landscape with strangely shaped rock cliffs.
  • Tourists visit continuously in the summer and autumn to enjoy playing in the water in the river in front of the village.

Village information center

  • The information center was established as the Gumai Dried Persimmon Village was selected as an information village.
  • The village information center is used not only as an information education facility and meeting place for village residents, but also as a shelter open to all visitors to the village.
