Introduction (Details)
The Korea Hanbok Promotion Institute is the nation’s only public institution dedicated exclusively to Hanbok, Korea’s traditional attire. Established to preserve, promote, and modernize Hanbok culture, the institute serves as a leading center for research, education, exhibitions, and industry development related to Hanbok.
Opened in 2021, the institute features a Hanbok Exhibition & Promotion Hall, a Convergence Industry Hall, and a Hanbok Training School. Through these facilities, it introduces visitors to the history, craftsmanship, and cultural significance of Hanbok while exploring its contemporary applications in modern life.
The institute offers a variety of cultural programs, including exhibitions, educational workshops, Hanbok wearing experiences, and special events such as Hanbok Culture Week and Hanbok Cultural Walk. These programs provide visitors with opportunities to experience the elegance and beauty of traditional Korean attire firsthand.
In collaboration with the silk heritage of Hamchang Silk Village, the institute also promotes Hanbok made from traditional Hamchang silk, creating unique cultural tourism experiences that connect Korea’s textile heritage with its traditional clothing culture. Through exhibitions, research, design development, and educational activities, the institute contributes to preserving Hanbok traditions while supporting innovation and sustainability within the Hanbok industry.
Serving as a cultural hub that connects artisans, designers, researchers, educational institutions, and visitors, the Korea Hanbok Promotion Institute plays an important role in advancing Hanbok as both a living cultural heritage and a global symbol of K-Culture.
As one of the key attractions of Hamchang Silk Village, the institute offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of Hanbok and gain a deeper understanding of Korea’s traditional culture.
